Racism in Spanish football
Samuel Eto'o, Barcelona's popular striker, has criticised the 9000 euro fine imposed on Zaragoza football club for the racist monkey chants he was subjected to whenever he touched the ball by sections of the Zaragoza supporters last Saturday.
Eto'o was so upset by the continuous racist chants of the home fans, that 15 minutes before the end of the match he decided to abandon the game and started walking off the pitch towards the tunnel. TV camaras caught him say "Ya no juego mas" (I'm not playing anymore). But players from Barcelona and Zaragoza, aswell as training staff from both teams and the referee, managed to persuade the Cameroon player to continue, and justice seemed to be done when just a few seconds after the game was re-started Ronaldinho scored for the visiting team. After the match Eto'o, who has spoken out before against racisim at football matches, confessed to reporters that he had been devastated by the behaviour of the fans.
When asked today for his opinion about the fine imposed on Zaragoza for the behaviour of the club's fans, Samuel Eto'o said that it was much too lenient and that punishments dealt out by the Spanish football association should go beyond fines and he insinuated that closing down the ground for a year could be one solution. Eto'o also said he thought that ordinary courts should deal with these kind of situations, rather than just the football association.
Eto told reporters that he suffered the same kind of racist chants last season in Zaragoza, and that while he understood that clubs cannot control all the fans present at a match, everyone in football should work together to try to erradicate the growing problem of racism in Spanish football.

I was at the match. I live just outside Zaragoza, my sons support Barcelona and, once we got tickets, we were delighted at the prospect of seeing their "heroes" play near home. I regret taking them and will never pay to go to see Zaragoza again. The racist chants were constant throughout the match, and if I had been Eto'o I wouldn't have lasted as long as he did before threatening to leave. It was a disgrace for football and I felt ashamed sitting in seats just metres away from Zaragoza supporters who yelled their racist comments and monkey-chants throughout the game. Having paid quite a hefty sum for 4 tickets, my sons were baffled by the antagonistic atmosphere and by the tension the racism of the Zaragoza's fans surrounding us caused in me and in my wife. What could have been a wonderful day out for me and my family was in the end a tense affair. I agree with Eto. The Spanish football authorities need to get a grip on the situation and a 9000 euros fine is pathetic.
De racismo nada,es abitual decir gordo ,feo ,enano,amarillo,negro y no es racismo,en este caso en el futbol,en todos partidos se gritan insultos al equipo contrario ,o es que cuando se juega en barcelona no hay insultos y signos racistas ... no nos dejemos llevar por Eto'o que supo sacar probecho de esos insultos ,que si hubiera sido gordo o cara de conejo no le harian caso ,y por que no , le ofenderia igual.
Un personaje que cobra tantisimo dinero por jugar con una pelota ,deberia saber que esas cosas se han dicho siempre en el futbol.La fama tiene un precio .
En la vida real conozco muchas personas que saben fingir bien ,ademas por ello querria que nos impongan una sancion de un año sin abrir el campo de futbol.
Si vuelve a Zaragoza no creo que le digan solo "negro" o lo que le dijeran .Creo que se ha ganado unos miles de personas en contra.
El tiempo nos dara la razon y conoceremos al verdadero Eto'o.
It's a disgrace; spain has a problem. It's evident that Blacks across the world excel in anything better than their peers when given a chance. It's too bad that this ignorance still exists in the world. I hope Eto weathers the storm and continues to make his point by continuing to excel in the sport and on the field. To hell with racists in the world and especially racist spanish football fans.

samuel eto'o is one of the best football player these days and I find it insulting that people still believe that blacks are inferior than white!I'm white but I just can't see a difference!It's just a color and if Spain can't see the difference I believe that Spanish Football will lose all of their Respect.I'm gooing to put an honour page for Eto'o for continuing the Match.

united state,NC.spanish football fans has always been racists ,I wonder why ,may be because they are not as good as some other European countries so they are in constant struggle to stay above black ppl,rediculous.These ppl have confidence issue ,when a person believes in him self he start to appreciate when others excel .apparently this does not hold for these narrow-minded spanish fans.They want to get credit just for the race they belong rather than who they are and what they are capable off.i really feel sorry for them coz black ppl like Eto and me and others never let them in our way.
Black ppls hard work and perseverance is paying off and it will ,what are this ppl goin' to do? still scream like a monkey in the pitch? can that be an option in the 21st century ,i don' think so and i think the rest of world agree with me but Spanish ppl of course.For these ppl I have only one advice , please wake up and join the rest of the world you don't wanna wake after 10 years when black ppl don' even wanna talk about spain leave alone playing there.

'Anonymous', who posted at 10:05, is just as bad as the Zaragoza fans. Black is not better than white, nor is white better than black. We are equal. We are all human beings, and the colour of our skin does not affect any kind of skill or excellence.
